Reading Stoner by John Williams as a Childfree by Choice Woman
I voraciously devoured the first 100 pages of what some call "The Perfect Novel".
Coming off of having read The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas in June/July, The Custom of the Country by Edith Wharton in August. The plan was to start Stoner by John Williams on September 1st, but I couldn't wait. I am 100 pages in as of August 30th.
Stoner will be the only book I read in the month of September. It's the perfect month to read this novel. The texture of life as it moves into back to school season is the perfect backdrop for the story. As well as the fact (for me) that I'm currently located in Missouri for the next few months.
Admittedly before I started reading Stoner, all the accolades rang a bit hollow. I thought everyone was lying about how much they love it, and how great it is. But after 100 pages in I get it. I plan to read it 2 more times before the end of September focusing on 3 different characters. The first, obviously, Stoner. The second Edith (his wife). The third I'm not sure yet, as I'm only 100 pages in.
